1980: Company Founded
Paul Hostetler and Rod Hershberger open VinylTech in Venice, FL with three employees. Company name later changed to reflect growing product portfolio.
1987: Window Manufacturing
Company establishes Progressive Glass Technology (PGT®) to meet growing customer demand for superior-quality windows.
1992: Hurricane Andrew
The Category 5 hurricane hits Florida causing more than $25 billion in damage, and making it the worst hurricane to ever hit the state.
1993: Miami-Dade Protocols
PGT® works with Miami-Dade County to establish testing protocols for impact-resistant products.
1996: WinGuard® Launched
The WinGuard® product line is launched, making PGT the first manufacturer to offer a full suite of impact-resistant windows & doors.
2000: New Glass Plant
PGT adds its first glass plant to the N. Venice location, bringing more control over the window production process in-house.
2007: Industry Recognition
PGT is recognized for its industry contributions, receiving the Corporate Award at the 21st Annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference in recognition of its contributions to advance hurricane preparedness and mitigation techniques, as well as the 2007 Executive Director’s Award from the Fenestration Manufacturer’s Association (FMA) for its advisory role to various building code committees and work groups.
2008: WinGuard® Vinyl Launched
PGT launches WinGuard® Vinyl – the company’s first line of vinyl impact window and door products.
2010: Crystal Achievement Award
The company is bestowed Window & Door Magazine’s 2010 Crystal Achievement Award for Most Innovative Door for its WinGuard® Preferred Sliding glass Door (SGD 770) and PGT ClassicVue MaxTM SGD 670 sliding glass doors as a result of the doors’ performance, features, and options.
2019: #1 in Quality
PGT is ranked #1 in the nation for quality in the “Doors: Patio/Wide Window Openings” category by the 2019 BUILDER Brand Use Report.
2023: Narrow Aluminum Door Launched
A new, narrow style WinGuard® Aluminum Preferred View Sliding Glass Door (SGD 770NS) is added to PGT’s product portfolio.
2024: As Seen on HGTV
Multiple products from PGT’s portfolio are featured on HGTV’s Rock the Block.
2024: Narrow Vinyl Door Launched
The company adds a new, narrow style WinGuard® Vinyl Preferred View Sliding Glass Door (SGD 5570NS) to its product portfolio.
